By midday, the group had collected more than 1,200 items, and were expecting more than 800 items from the FFA’s food drive. Cash donations had reached $500, including a donation from Air Evac flight crew members, who gave their Christmas party funds to the effort. The members said they would hold a potluck supper for Christmas instead. Canyon Concrete plan to match the donated food and cash.

On Nov. 11, the University of Missouri Extension Madison County Council will host Theresa Hauk, Director of the Mid-America Trade Adjustment Assistance Center, who will present the Trade Adjustment Assistance for Firms (TAA). The TAA is a federal program that provides financial assistance to manufacturers affected by import competition. Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Commerce, this cost sharing federal assistance program pays for half the cost of consultants or industry-specific experts for projects that improve a manufacturer’s competitiveness. TAA provides substantial financial assistance to offset the cost of projects that strengthen operations and sharpen competitiveness for manufactures in many industries. This customized business assistance is used for a variety of projects, including marketing, information technology, manufacturing, engineering, and quality.
