POTOSI - Willie Snyder of Potosi, formerly of Bismarck, passed away on August 18, 2005, at Potosi, Missouri, at the age of 81. He was born on July 10, 1924, at Gunnison, Mississippi, the son of Joseph E. and Lucinda Henson Snyder. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Virginia Devine Snyder, his daughter Rita Snyder Craig, seven brothers and three sisters.

He is survived by his wife Verniece Snyder of Potosi, his son Joe Snyder and wife Margaret of Bismarck, step-son Jack Adams and wife Vivian of Ironton, brother Charles Snyder (Lorna) of Doe Run, son-in-law Larry Craig of Bismarck, four grandsons, three grand-daughters, one great-granddaughter, four great-grandsons, many nieces and nephews, and a whole host of friends and relatives.

He was blessed to be married to two exceptional ladies, Virginia his wife of 55 years who passed away in 1999, and his wife Verniece whom he married in September 2004.

Mr. Snyder was a Missouri-Pacific Railroad retiree, an Army Veteran of World War II, a 50 year member of the Bismarck Odd Fellows Lodge 349, Past Noble Grand of his Lodge several times, Past President of the Mineral Area Odd fellows Pep Association, Past Commander of Bismarck American Legion Post 778, member of the Potosi American Legion Post 265 and member of the Bismarck First Baptist Church.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday, August 20 at Shipman's Funeral Home in Bismarck. American Legion services will begin at 7 p.m., followed by an Odd Fellow's service at 7:30 p.m.

Funeral services at Shipman's Chapel at 2 p.m. Sunday with Reverend Jeff Richards of the First Baptist Church of Potosi and Reverend Lawrence Kennon of the First Baptist Church of Bismarck officiating.

Burial will be at the Bismarck Odd Fellows Cemetery. Mr. Snyder was largely responsible for establishing a Perpetual Cemetery Fund for the cemetery and collected donations at Memorial Day to help maintain it. Donations may be made to the Bismarck Odd Fellows Cemetery Perpetual Fund Box 447, Bismarck, MO 63624.
