STE. GENEVIEVE - The Valle girls basketball team wrapped up sole possession of second place in the MAAA Small-School division on Wednesday with a 38-22 home win over West County.

Valle (12-9) extended a five-point advantage after one quarter to 23-13 by halftime, and was never threatened in a contest that was previously scheduled for January 30.

With a victory, West County (8-13) could have earned a three-way tie in the standings along with Valle and Bismarck, but the Lady Bulldogs struggled to score all evening while missing two starters from its lineup.

Katie Jo Bergtholdt scored 12 points for the Lady Warriors, and teammate Katie Shuh collected 11 points with a trio of three-pointers. Freshman Chelsey Kelly stepped up for the Lady Bulldogs with 12 points.

Valle will travel to Meadow Heights tonight. West County will host large-school opponent, Potosi on Friday.
