Thursday, February 23, 2006 11:06 AM CST
Wednesday night was not a good night for boys' MAAA teams in Class 4 district tournaments. All four ended their basketball season with respective losses. Potosi and North County both lost at Hillsboro, and Fredericktown and Ste. Genevieve came up short at Sikeston. Farmington, a Class 5 team, lost on Tuesday leaving only Farmington and Fredericktown girls teams left in either Class 4 or 5 tournaments, Both teams play tonight.

Sikeston 64, Fredericktown 41

SIKESTON - After their win on Monday over Dexter, the Fredericktown Blackcats earned the right to not only play the No. 1 seed Sikeston Bulldogs, but to play them on their homecourt. It did not go well for the Blackcats as they lost 64-41.

“We pulled to within four points late in the third quarter, but they (Sikeston) wore us down and pulled away again. It was definitely a physical battle,” said Fredericktown coach Brett Reutzel.

The Blackcats trailed at the half 30-18, but three pointers by Clauser and Mike Francis and six points by Williams put the Blackcats right back into the game.

“We got more efficient in our shooting,” credited Coach Reutzel for the reason the Blackcats were able to challenge the Bulldogs in the third quarter. Sikeston ran away with the game in the fourth quarter.

The Blackcats end their season at 17-11. Sikeston will now play Notre Dame in the district championship game on Friday.
