Grass throws no-hitter for Valle, Blackcats and Vikings win

STE. GENEVIEVE - Nathan Grass threw a no-hitter for Valle Thursday to help the Warriors win their first conference game 10-0 in five innings over the Bismarck Indians. The Warriors ran off their 10 runs in just three innings matching zeros with the Indians for the last two . The no-hitter was the second thrown against the Indians in a row.

Colby Schilly and Kellen Basler were both 3-3 on the night. Basler drove in four runs to lead the team in RBIs.

Fredericktown 13, Saxony Lutheran 3

JACKSON - The Fredericktown Blackcats were also recipients of a five-inning win, defeating Saxony Lutheran on their own field 13-3. Logan Stevens got the win with a two-hitter. Ryan Thompson threw to only one batter in relief and got a double play to close out the game.

Matt Smallen delivered four RBI, going 2-3 at the plate. Thompson and Taylor Fall each were 2-3 with a double, and Stevens was 2-5 at the plate. Matt Tinnin, Jake Sikes and Mike Stapfer each had one single in the game.

Fredericktown, 2-0, will travel to Ste. Genevieve on Monday in a conference make-up game.

Valley 9, Kingston 5

CALEDONIA - The Valley baseball team picked up its first victory of the season on Thursday, slugging out 11 hits to claim a 9-5 conference win over Kingston. Michael Dodd allowed just two earned runs and recorded nine strikeouts to earn the win. He also went 2-for-3 with a double.

Kody Martin went 2-for-3 with two doubles and a RBI, and Ryan Forbes also collected two hits for the Vikings. Kris Kearns drove in two runs and Joe Fahland had a triple.

Brad Merseal and Shawn Henry were each 2-for-4 to lead the Cougars. Merseal worked all seven innings with four strikeouts in the loss.

Valley (1-1) will host Viburnum on Monday. Kingston (0-2) is scheduled for a road game at South Iron this afternoon.
