Warriors pick up another conference win

LEADWOOD - The Valle Warriors were able to overcome five miscues during Wednesday's conference game against the West County Bulldogs. Although West County led throughout most of the contest, the Warriors added seven runs in the final two frames for a 16-11 win.
The Bulldogs scored a pair of runs in the first inning to take the lead, but Valle took a 6-4 edge in the second frame. West County countered with six tallies in the third for a 10-7 contest. The Bulldogs maintained a 11-9 advantage before the Warriors piled up four runs in the sixth and three more in the seventh. Valle had a 17-13 hitting advantage over West County.
Nathan Grass had a flawless 5-5 performance at the plate with two doubles and five RBI for the Warriors. Colby Schilly and Todd Ritter both added three hits, and Josh Wipfler added a couple of singles. Scott Jokerst tripled, and Ryan Dalton came through with a double.
James Whitehead went 3-4 for the Bulldogs, and Derek Stevens and Jesse Dean were both 2-3. One of Dean's hits was a double. Brian Sullivan was 2-4, and Jake Gidden contributed a double.
Kellen Basler threw in the last three innings to pick up the win. Tyler Stacy suffered the loss as he went the distance.
West County (5-9, 4-6 small-school MAAA) is finished with regular season conference play, and will host Clearwater today. Valle, now 9-2 and 7-2 in conference play, will be home against St. Pius the same day.

Potosi 14, Herculaneum 7
POTOSI - The Potosi Trojans won their ninth game of the season on Wednesday when they hosted the Herculaneum Blackcats. Although Potosi only held a two-hit edge over the Blackcats, the Trojans were able to make their hits count as Potosi picked up a 14-7.
The Trojans took a 2-0 lead at the end of the first inning, but Herculaneum took a one-run advantage after two frames of play. The game was later tied 4-4 at the end of the third inning, but Potosi racked up six tallies in the fourth inning and four more in the sixth.
Matt Reed, Derek Chazelle, and Andy AuBuchon both had a double and a single. Tim Pashia doubled, Kyle Marler added three singles, and J.R. White chipped in two. AuBuchon got the win for the Trojans. He threw for five and one-third of an inning, gave up seven runs, four earned runs, one walk, and struck out three.
Potosi, now 9-6, will participate in the Stoutland tournament starting on Friday. The Trojans will first play Clever, then take on Charleston.

GOLF
Arcadia Valley 161, Viburnum 222
IRONTON - The Arcadia Valley Tigers won their sixth golf match of the season against Viburnum with a score of 161-222.
Arcadia Valley's Jordan McLaurin earned medalist honors with a score of 35, and Abe Warren added a 36. The two golfers were tied until the last hole where McLaurin recorded a birdie, and Warren ended with a par. Both golfers had a pair of birdies on the day. Dustin Branstetter shot a 49, and Justin Sutton posted a 51. Kassie Walker had a round of 57, and Chase Bennett finished with a 64. Neither score was added to the team total.
The Tigers, now 6-2, will visit Fredericktown today for a conference match-up.
FESTUS TOURNAMENT
FARMINGTON - Three MAAA golf teams participated in the 10-team Festus tournament held at Eagle Lake golf course on Wednesday. North County took second place with a score of 338, Central finished fourth with a 335, and Potosi was ninth with a 386.
Other teams that participated in the tournament were Whitfield (324), Festus (354), Windsor (368), Crystal City (373), De Soto and Perryville (375), and Herculaneum (406).
North County's Josh Harrison took third place with an 81, and teammates Jake Black finished fourth with an 83, and Cory Claywell finished sixth with an 84. Potosi's Sean Martin recorded a round of 85 good enough for fifth place, and Central's Blake Stevens took seventh place with a round of 87. Matt Watkins and Justin Bowers of Central shared ninth-place honors with an 88.
Dustin Gray posted a score of 90 for North County, and Tory Marler had a round of 92 for Central. Potosi's Brittany Chazelle shot a 99, and Jason Heeter and Bobby Sansoucie both finished with a 101.
North County will visit Central today. Potosi will travel to West County the same day.
TENNIS
IRONTON - The Potosi Trojans tennis team picked up another win on Wednesday. Potosi defeated the hosting Arcadia Valley Tigers 6-1.
Arcadia Valley's lone win of the day came in the No. 3 doubles match. Cameron Crawford and Thomas Lambert defeated Gary Hollinsworth and Travis Edwards 9-7.
The Trojans won their first three singles matches all by the score of 8-2. John Haguewood triumphed over Mickey King, Nathan Payne defeated Corey Hodzic, and Wil Norveil emerged victorious over Lambert. Shea Stark won the last singles match 8-4 over Michael Jones.
Haguewood and Kurtis Davis defeated King and Hodzic 8-4 in No. 1 doubles, and Payne and Stark won 8-1 over Alex Berry and Jones for Potosi's last win of the day.
Both teams will participate in the conference tournament at Farmington on Monday.
Poplar Bluff 7, North County 2
POPLAR BLUFF - The North County Raiders took a long trip to Poplar Bluff on Wednesday. Poplar Bluff picked up a 7-2 win.
North County's lone victories came in the No. 2 and three singles. Robert Lincoln defeated Ben Nuttery 8-6, and Billy Nobles won 9-7 over Terry Salyers.
Malay Bhatt shut out Ethan Wegleitner in No. 1 singles. Scott Olson won the No. 4 match over Greg Stegall, and Kelsey Brown defeated Andrew Blunt in No. 6 singles both by the score of 8-1. Chris Drury emerged victorious over C.J. Rawson in No. 5 singles 8-2.
Bhatt and Nuttery won the top doubles match 8-1 over Wegleitner and Lincoln. Brown and Drury posted an 8-3 win over Blunt and Nobles, and Olson and Salyers defeated Stegall and Stephen Edgar 8-2 in the last doubles contest.
The Raiders will participate in the conference tournament held at Farmington on Monday.
