Jefferson County teams rough up MAAA teams
Thursday, August 31, 2006
The only scheduled MAAA softball games pitted two of the league's teams at two Jefferson County teams and both were not treated too kindly, scorewise that is. The Ste. Genevieve Hunters matched up with the Crystal City Lady Hornets and fell victim to an 11-1 beating in five innings.
The Hunters were holding their own for four innings with the score 3-1, but an eight-run outburst brought the game to a screeching halt in the bottom of the fifth. The Lady Hornets outhit the Hunters 12-4 in the game.
The Fredericktown Lady Cats had nearly the same fate, but had a little more trouble offensively as they were held to only one hit by De Soto's Torrie Yeast for a 10-0 win in five innings.
The De Soto Lady Dragons got most of their runs early with three in the first inning and six in the second. Carolyn Oquendo led the way in hitting, 2-3, with a triple and a single and three RBI while scoring two runs herself for the Lady Dragons. Melissa Lombardo was also 2-3 at the plate.
Ste. Genevieve , 1-4, will play at Potosi today, and Fredericktown, 1-3, will also play today, but at North County.
