ST. LOUIS (AP) - Quarterback Collin Howard ran 15 times for 95 yards and two scores as Webb City completed a perfect season by winning its seventh state title with a 26-0 shutout of Hannibal Friday in the Class 4 Championship Game.
The defense for Webb City (14-0) did not force any turnovers. But the Cardinals otherwise made life miserable for the Pirates' offense, which was making its first appearance in a state title game.
Hannibal (11-3) managed 231 yards on 57 plays, but 118 of those yards came in the fourth quarter after Webb City had put the game out of reach.
Webb City got all the points it would need on its opening possession. Trever Davis, who finished with 82 yards on 11 carries, capped the 10-play, 80-yard drive with a 1-yard plunge that made it 6-0 with 7:39 remaining in the opening quarter.
Howard then scored on a 53-yard touchdown run with 8:29 left in the half that made it 12-0. He ended any hopes of a Hannibal comeback when he went over on a quarterback keeper from 3 yards out at 8:01 of the third quarter to make it a three-score game.
The state championship was the first for Webb City since 2001. The Cardinals made it to the championship game in 2004, but lost 27-26 to Clayton in overtime.
