POTOSI - Washington County Prosecuting Attorney John Rupp has received the final report of the investigation into the shooting death of John L. Turntine.
Late Monday afternoon, Rupp said he has not reviewed the report but he hopes to look at it soon and make a decision. While he was unsure of a timeline, Rupp said he hoped to make a decision by the end of this week.
Rupp said he did go with investigating officers to the scene of where the man died to see what witnesses “could see and from where.”
According to police reports, Turntine was shot and killed Sept. 3 by a Washington County deputy.
Deputies had been called to Turntine's home for an intoxicated male who was threatening people. Turntine was shot after a deputy ran after him from his home into the woods. The deputy said Turntine had a butcher knife and was approaching him when he fired the weapon.
Family members who were present at the home dispute many of the statements the deputy made about what happened.
The shooting has been investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
