Gardening symposium at MAC
Learn the secrets to raising tomatoes, setting up a rain garden, using plants to dye wool and making jam at the annual symposium sponsored by Parkland Master Gardeners March 3. The event will be from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Mineral Area College North College Center.

The keynote speaker will be local commercial grower Ron Hale who will discuss “The Secret to Raising Tomatoes in Missouri.”
Other classes include: "Jam-making, Canning, and Food Preservation" Mary Wilson, Parkland Master Gardeners; "Rain Gardens" Tim Horton, Horticulture Specialist with the University of Missouri Extension Service; "Basic Seed Starting / Making New Plants" Nena Detring, Parkland Master Gardeners; “Plants Used to Dye Wool" Mary Rill, Parkland Master Gardeners; "Native American Uses for Native Plants: Old Plants, New Eyes" AJ Hendershot, University of Missouri Extension; "Lasagna Gardening / Composting in Place" Ellen Karl and Barb Graff, Parkland Master Gardeners; "Heirloom Plants" Linda Williams, Missouri Organic Association; "Herbs for Healthy Living" Debbie Baker, Parkland Master Gardeners; "Care of Storm-Damaged Trees" Tim Horton, Horticulture Specialist with the University of Missouri Extension.
In addition to classes, there will be abundant door prizes, a raffle, plenty of venders, and free soil testing. Registered participants who want their soil tested should bring soil in pint-sized Ziplock bags labeled with their names.
