FARMINGTON — An Ironton man has been sentenced to seven years in prison for his role in the Farmington Walgreens robbery two years ago.

On Friday, Joe Sherrill, 36, pleaded guilty to stealing and possession of meth precursor drug. The sentence will run concurrent to the sentence he received in Iron County for stealing.

His trial had been scheduled for Jan. 9. He had originally been charged with second-degree robbery but the charge was amended as part of a plea agreement.

His co-defendant, Ronald Browers II was sentenced to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to second-degree robbery and an unrelated charge of second-degree drug trafficking.

According to police reports, employees at Walgreens in Farmington told police that a man wearing a flannel coat and a ski mask jumped over the counter with a black trash bag and stole about 15 to 20 boxes of Sudafed on Dec. 25, 2005.

The man then reportedly jumped back over the counter and ran out of the store toward a trailer park. A couple of the employees said as he was fleeing the store, they saw something in his left hand but could not tell what it was.

Farmington Police Sgt. Larry Lacey noticed a truck in the area that looked like it had stopped and picked someone up. He tried to stop the vehicle on Maple Street, but the driver did not pull over until the intersection of Alexander and Liberty streets.

After arresting the driver and the passenger, police noticed a .22 caliber rifle, a black trash bag, a police scanner, a flannel shirt and a ski mask in the vehicle. Officers found 20 Sudafed boxes and one Walgreens brand of medication in the trash bag.

Police believe Sherrill entered Walgreens and stole the medication behind the counter. They believe Browers was driving the truck that fled from police.

In other cases, Mark Ligue, 19, of Bonne Terre, was sentenced to 10 years in prison for violating the probation he received for two counts of stealing. The judge will consider placing him on probation after he completes a 120-day drug treatment program.

Kelly Rachelle Lamb, 28, of De Soto, was sentenced to seven years in prison for violating the probation she received for possession of meth.
