May  1, 1908

A man charged with a crime in Marquand was released by the circuit judge. The newspaper stated: The next time the people of Marquand have a case of this kind they should resort to tar and feathers or take the hickory switch route and save some costs.

Judge Fox of the Missouri Supreme Court wrote a ruling for the court that the sale of lemons on Sunday did not violate the Sunday closing law.

May 1, 1958

The state turned down a plan to consolidate 9 elementary school districts in the county. The lack of accessibility to one high school was their reason.

The 27th Founder’s Day dinner by the 3 Beta Sigma Phi Chapters was held. Girl’s of the Year named were Mary Mills, Virginia Ferguson, and Margaret Miller. Past president pins were given to Virginia Ferguson, Mary Mills, Eloise Meador and Hattie Thal.

High winds blew down the 440 foot television booster tower on Matthews Mountain.

Twenty seniors will graduate from Marquand High School. Valedictorian is Cora Lee Stephens and the salutorian is Connie Bennett.

May 5, 1983

Marquand-Zion valedictorian is Bruce Miller and the salutatorian is Tina Rhodes.

Rika Magnus and Eric Kegley were named UM Curators scholars.

Christian recording artist Brian Kinder, formerly of Fredericktown was in concert at the Millcreek Freewill Baptist Church.

May 6, 1998

Jeannie Rehkop was crowned the 1998 Azalea queen. Melanie Rowland was first runner-up and Angie Allgier second runner-up.

Jeannie Rehkop was elected Missouri State Beta Club vice president.

Taylor Whitener and Kelsey Armes were named the Azalea Prince and Princess.

The Blackcat golf team led by Dusty Merrill and Brandon Martignoni’s scoring won the thirteen team Farmington tournament.
