Tilk Receives Second Place

Donovan Tilk received Second Place in the 2008 Missouri FFA Forest Management and Products Entrepreneurship and Placement Award
COLUMBIA, Mo., April 18, 2008 - Donovan S. Tilk, of the Fredericktown FFA Chapter, Annapolis, Missouri, received the second place FFA Forrest Management and Products Entrepreneurship and Placement Award at the 80th Missouri FFA Convention.
Tilk, a senior at Fredericktown R-I High School, is the son of Patrick and Brenda Tilk. His FFA advisors are Tom Mooney and Mike Graham.
As an FFA member, Tilk is a 2007 Area 15 Star in Agribusiness and the recipient of the 2007 Area 15 Forest Management Proficiency Award. He has competed in forestry, dairy cattle, livestock, knowledge and soils career development events. He has attended both state and national conventions and the Missouri FFA Leadership Adventure.
Outside FFA, Tilk is a president of member of the Jewett 4-H Club. He is also a member of Beta Club, Science Club, Math Club and the marching band.
Tilk's Supervised Agricultural Experience Program (SAE) began when he started working as an equipment operator at his family's business, Leatherwood Mill and Stakes. Tilk also started an agribusiness of his own. He and his brother are partners in an enterprise that makes survey and tomato stakes out of scrap lumber.
After graduating high school, Tilk plans to attend Missouri University of Science and Technology and major in civil engineering. After college, Tilk plans to work as an engineer at Sargent Construction and continue running Leatherwood Mill and Stakes.
Proficiency awards recognize FFA members who excel as agricultural entrepreneurs, employees or volunteers while gaining hands-on career experience. Forrest Management and Products Entrepreneurship and Placement Award is one of 47 proficiency awards presented at the state level.
The Missouri Tree Farm Committee, of Jefferson City, Mo. sponsored this award.
The Missouri FFA has 24,137 members representing 311 chapters. The national organization has more than 500,000 members representing 7,358 local chapters in 50 states, Puerto Rico, Guam and the Virgin Islands.
