Annual Postal Service Food Drive set for May 10
May 08, 2008 - 10:45:51 CDT
Fredericktown Postmaster Mark Montgomery said last year about 1750 pounds on average were collected and they appreciate all the donations. This year they have set a goal of collecting 2000 pounds of food. Montgomery said, “All food donations collected here stay local.” The donations will go to local food banks. “This is great for the community.”
Although the event is sponsored by the NALC, the Fredericktown postal employees all chip in; including rural carriers, highway contract carriers and clerks, Montgomery said. They all really enjoy helping.
Residents are asked to place donations in a plastic bag, grocery bag or something similar to help the carriers transport the food. Rural residents can place their donations inside the mailbox if they wish, Montgomery said.
Post cards announcing the food drive were mailed out.
