A-May-Zing in Marquand
May 08, 2008 - 10:45:51 CDT
Although there are a number of businesses that form The Country Triangle, not all of them will be exhibiting pieces from this private collection on loan from Mr. & Mrs. Ross, but welcome your visit as you drive the routes that connect these unique communities. If you are driving from the Perryville, Jackson or Cape Girardeau area, you may want to make your first stop in Patton, MO, a quaint community with wonderful shops and boutiques to explore, which are nestled in the landscape along and branching off of Highway 72. Impressive pieces of this collection will be found at Green's Garden Center, Light My Way Candles and Thousand Oaks Winery (Grand Opening is May 10th!). While in the Patton area, you'll want to take time not only to see the artwork, but to meet local artisans, browse the quaint shops, and taste the first vintage offered by Thousand Oaks, or just sit in the shade and enjoy the scenery.
Leaving Patton, MO driving West on Highway 72, or coming into the area via Highway 72 East, Highway 67, or Highway 00, you will find yourself in the County Seat of Madison County - Fredericktown, MO. Rich in history, rife with talent, and beaming with a new court square, it's easy to find yourself reminiscing about the "trips to town" your grandparents spoke of aboard a horse-drawn wagon, or in their first automobile. Here, you will find pieces of the Ross' collection displayed at Vance Vineyard & Winery, Off Another Rack, The Cowboy Coffee Company and Country Lane Florist. In addition to strolling the court square, you will find museums, shops, boutiques and numerous food venues.
If you are arriving from Highway 34/DD/M, Highway 51 or 67 South, you may want to intercept "The Triangle" at Marquand. A once bustling railroad community, Marquand is gradually transforming into a tourist stop. Reminiscent of Kimmswick, MO, tree-lined streets, historic homes, and picturesque hillsides welcome you "home." Here, artwork from the Ross collection can be found at The Gallery, Durso Hills Winery and The Homan Building. In addition to viewing this segment of the Ross collection, you will find antique shops, gift shops, a general store, a historic park, and Missouri Wine Associations 2007 Gold & Silver Medal winners at Durso Hills! Saturday night, you can join us for "The Days of Wine & Roses: A 1940's Revue" featuring St. Louis based entertainers Deborah Sharn and Rocky Tucker at 7:00 p.m. at Homan's Hall, an evening you won't want to miss!
Regardless of where you join the "Triangle," be sure to see it all! It's a fascinating "Slice of The Good Life!" right in your own backyard.
