Earl J. Tate, 77, of Fredericktown died April 20, 2008 at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.

He was born February 2, 1931 at McLeansboro, Illinois, a son of Otis Alton and Nova Noreen        (Irby) Tate.

On November 7, 1955 he was united in marriage to Elwanda at Riverbank, California (Stanislaus County).

Mr. Tate was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Elwanda Tate of Fredericktown; one son, David Earl Tate of Fredericktown; three daughters, Sharon Louise Lankford of Farmington, Missouri, Brenda K. Emerick of Valparaiso, Florida and Donna S. Pich Hansmann of Marquand, Missouri; and one brother, William E. Tate of Swansea, Illinois.

Mr. Tate had 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

He was a member of Sterling Baptist Church and of the Southern Baptist faith.

Mr. Tate enjoyed fishing, genealogy and yard sales.

He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and earned the National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal during his tour of duty.

Services were held April 26, 2008 at Follis and Sons Chapel with the Reverend George Land officiating.

Burial was at Bloomfield Veterans Cemetery.

Arrangements by Follis and Sons Funeral Home of Fredericktown, Missouri.
