There are some pretty special plans for the weekend being made by the students in Debbie Easley’s class. The preparations are in anticipation of Mother’s Day this Sunday.

One mom will get to choose what she and her son will play that afternoon.

“I really like to play soccer in the backyard,” said Cole as a hint.

Jacob likes the time he spends playing checkers with mom “and my dad plays, too”.

Breakfast in bed for mom is on order as well. Tatum says she and her big sister treat mom with a special meal every year. Kaylee says she plans to make mom her favorite “peanut butter and jelly with milk” on Sunday morning. Their classmate, Ashley, is thinking of mom’s favorite food as well.

“She doesn’t like cereal, so I’ll make her French Toast Sticks instead,” she said, adding “I think she’s really going to like it.”

It’s not just breakfast, but dinner is a popular Mother’s Day treat.’

Thomas said he will tell his mom “how much I love her” and his family will go out to eat.

For Dane, a special meal with his mom is when “she lets me go to McDonald’s”.

“Sometimes we eat at home and watch television,” he said, telling about a favorite show they watch together.

Kelcee has a special day planned for a special someone in her life. She said how much her Aunt Sarah means to her and that “we have a lot of love on Mother’s Day”.

Hollie and Hannah — “they’re not sisters, they’re twins”, said one classmate — will go out to eat with mom and Hannah says they each give her a card.

“My card will say ‘I love you’,” said Hollie.

Many of their classmates shared the sentiments they will express on their own cards to mom.

“You fill my heart with joy,” was Cate’s

Olivia said her note to mom will say “I love you, Momma”.

Kaleb, Shana and Brailey will also get cards “and maybe a picture for her to share lots of love with my mom,” added Brailey.

Savannah planned to make her own card and color it purple because “that’s her favorite color”.

Cody was making a card while telling some of his favorite stories about mom.

“It says ‘I love you, mom — hugs and kisses,” he shared, then saying “I’m fixin’ on getting her” a very special present for Sunday. His classmate, Lyndon, also told about the surprise he had picked out to give his mom. Ella, Claire and Danel like to buy flowers for Mother’s Day.

“I give my mom flowers,” said Danel. She said the trip to the flower store was made without mom — “she wasn’t there” — and her family picked out the “perfect flower”.

Gracelyn also takes a shopping trip with dad “so mom won’t see” what the gift will be. Sami also takes that type of trip for the big day, picking out a “ring or a necklace” as a gift.

“Daddy and I go outside and let mommy rest,” Sami added.

This sentiment was echoed by her classmate Carson. He said his mom “makes stuff for me all the time” and thinks he knows what the perfect gift would be.

“I think she would like a nice trip without the kids for a while,” he said. “She says me and my two sisters whine a lot.”

Happy Mother’s Day to everyone, and a very special thank you to the students at St. Paul Lutheran.
