FRANKCLAY — The Bismarck Indians were hoping to build on Monday’s opening round win in the Class 2 District 4 Tournament, but Bourbon Warhawks pitcher Alex Bailey stood in their way on Tuesday. Bailey struck out 12 batters on way to a 5-0, two-hit shut-out.
Eric Grundmann for the most part was able to keep the Indians close by allowing only two hits by the Warhawks, but neither hit factored into Bourbon’s scoring. Three straight walks set up the Warhawks scoring in the second inning.
Jeremy Rosemann hit a bomb down the left field line which was foul but Ethan Graham cased it down for the out, and Brandon Orr was able to score from third on the catch. A ground ball hit between an infielder’s legs scored Bourbon’s second run and the 2-0 score would stand until the bottom of the sixth inning.
Bismarck only had runners on base four of the seven innings with a runner in scoring position three out of the four innings. D.J. McCarty led off the game with a hot grounder to short that ate up the Bourbon’s shortstop. A single by Cody Goodson moved McCarty to second and a ground ball put the Bismarck catcher on third, but a Bailey strike-out brought the scoring threat to an end.
Goodson began the fourth inning attempt with a lead-off double, Bismarck pitcher Eric Grundmann worked a ball four count, but a one-pitch bunt attempt failed, and Bailey struck out the next two batters and induced a ground out to end the inning.
The seventh inning attempt started with strike-out, followed by Grundmann being hit by a pitch and a walk to pinch hitter Robbie Eichenberger. Bailey struck out the last two Bismarck hitters to close out the game.
The Warhawks would tally three runs in the sixth inning with Levi Barton taking the mound. Singles by Orr, Evin Farris and Rosemann along with a couple of Bismarck errors helped Bourbon finalize its score.
Bismarck ends their season with the semi-final loss with a 7-13 record.

Valle 10, Valley 9
ANNAPOLIS — In the top of the seventh, a three-run rally by the Valley Vikings caused the Valle Warriors to put Nathan Geile on the mound with one runner on base to close out the game. Logan Midgett greeted Vale’s ace with a to-run home run to take the lead, but a misplayed ball in the outfield allowed the No. 1 seed Warriors to pull out a 10-9 win over the ‘never-say-die’ Vikings.
Midgett also hit a double earlier and had four RBI for the Vikings. Josh Akers, Tim Pickett and Kyle Halbert all hit doubles, Joe Fahland hit two singles, and Jacob Kearn and Matt Owens had one single each.
Geile hit a three-run home run in the first inning to get the Warriors started in eliminating the Vikings from the scene. The Vikings trailed the Warriors 7-1 after the first five innings, but they came back to score eight over the last two frames.
Mike Greminger had a single and a double, and Aaron Basler hit two singles. Brandon Wolk and Zach Weiler both hit doubles, and Cody Bieser and Ryan Roth had one single each.
