FARMINGTON — The Farmington Knights tennis team hosted a Regional match with the Potosi Trojans on Tuesday and came out 5-0 winners. The matches were two sets with a tiebreaker if needed.

Farmington’s No. 1 doubles team of Eric Fuemmeler and Colton Reynolds defeated Potosi’s Gary Hollinsworth and Jordan Politte, 6-0, 6-2. Justin Arnold and Ross Ledbetter won the No. 2 doubles match with a 6-2, 6-3 score over Nathan Payne and Kyle Dickey.

Flavio Mericio who had sliced open his thumb on his non-raquet hand when opening a can of tennis balls just prior to his match, was able to play out the match, but had to leave for the hospital. With his partner Samip Patel, the two managed a 6-0, 6-2 win over John Evans and Colen Schlosser.

Mericio, a foreign exchange student, was not able to play a singles match at the time, so No.s 1-3 and No. 5 were started, but not all were needed.

The first team to have reached five wins would  automatically win the Regional Meet with the other matches halted.

Arnold and Reynolds were both winners. Arnold defeated Payne 6-2, 6-1, and Reynolds disposed of Hollinsworth 6-0, 6-0.

Farmington will play at Clayton on Saturday in Sectionals to try and advance on to the state tournament. Justin Arnold, Colton Reynolds and Eric Fuemmeler have already earned a berth in the tournament for their results in the district tournament.

NC Teddy must be jealous of the Farmington squad because their own squad is so bad! I usually don't badmouth other schools but come on, you just had to make some stupid remark towards the kids who played their hearts out this year. Man up Teddy.

Way to go Knights!
Good luck at STATE Justin, Colton and Eric.
Such a shame that Justin and Colton have to make the choice between State and their graduation ceremony.
