Fake officer pulls over woman
Thursday, May 29, 2008
IMPERIAL, Mo. (AP) — Jefferson County police are warning drivers about a man posing as a police officer.

The fake officer pulled over a 21-year-old female driver early Tuesday in Imperial. The woman told KMOV-TV that she thought the man was driving a real police car because the vehicle had a blue flashing light on the dashboard.

The man allegedly told the motorist she was speeding but that he would let her off with a warning. He never showed any identification.

Police are searching for a white man with brown hair who is believed to be driving a spray-painted black car.

Remember people! If you are EVER in doubt as to who is trying to pull you over, go to a well lit area with people. If you are in an area where it will take some time to get to such a place, call *55 from your cell phone and speak with Highway Patrol. Ask for assistance. Should you stop, DO NOT roll down your windows more than a crack so you can hear what is being said by the person who stopped you. ALWAYS KEEP YOUR DOORS LOCKED!!!! Leave the car running DO NOT TURN IT OFF! ONLY turn it off when you have positively identified the person as Authentic law Enforcement and ONLY do so if requested after you make positive identification.
