Mayor concerned about warning siren
IRON MOUNTAIN LAKE — Iron Mountain Lake officials are still working with agencies to get their early warning siren system running properly.
Currently, if a storm warning were issued, the mayor or police chief would have to go unlock the siren box and push the button.
Mayor Michael Juenger said he has been working with St. Francois County 911 Director Alan Wells, the city’s attorney and Linda Fischer, a candidate for the 107th District, to get the issue resolved.
He said the siren won’t work off Park Hills’ frequency and Iron County won’t allow them to use their frequency.
He said Wells has suggested the city purchase a repeater at an estimated cost of $1,000. The repeater would pick up the St. Francois County signal for the siren and also would help the police department better communicate with St. Francois County 911.
Juenger said he wants a guarantee from someone that if the repeater doesn’t work for them, they can get their money back.
“I’m hoping to get it settled very quickly,” the mayor said. “My people are at stake here.”
He plans to discuss the siren at the council meeting tonight.
The city was able to get the siren with the help of a grant a few years ago. It was installed last year.
