• Dave Raymer, a Jaycee and member of the Farmington Fire Department, and Ed Knight, assistant fire chief, made a presentation to the Jaycees on the work of the 15-member volunteer fire department.
• Conservation Agent Walter Klinkhardt spoke to the Farmington Kiwanis about the various activities of the Conservation Department.
• Banta’s Furniture and Appliance, located at 201-205 South Washington, advertised a Zenith 23-inch, giant-screen rectangular picture color television “for just $499.95”.
• The eight-day Bible School of the Memorial United Methodist Church had a high attendance of 62 children during one day of the two-week event.
• Lois Ann Meyer, Home Service Director for Missouri Natural Gas Company, was the guest speaker for the Newcomer’s Club.

• Marvin Hudwalker resigned as the City Administrator for Farmington. Taking the position would be Roger Hoehn.
• Scott Lawson, first baseman for the Farmington Chiefs, pounded three doubles in four at-bats and drove in three runs for a 12-6 victory over the Desloge Indians.
• The Missouri State Highway Department approved Farmington’s controversial one-way street plan and work on the project would begin in late July of that year. The proposal had been the object of debate in the city since 1967.
• Wick Home Fest ‘78 would be held at a model home on Highway H at Edwards Street.
• Senator John Danforth delivered the dedication address during the dedication of Mineral Area Osteopathic Hospital’s new intensive care unit.

• The International Order of Job’s Daughters, Bethel No. 34 conducted its officer installation. Those installed were Melody Webb, Keri Beacham, Cristy Bothe, Janis Francis, Stacy Nickle, Angie Fowler, Susan Snavely, Tina Colvin, Jamie Danesi, and Amy Boyer.
• Dr. and Mrs. John P. Jackson held an open house for the new dental office, located at 109 South Franklin.
• Fifth-grade students at Truman Elementary receiving a Presidential Academic Fitness award included Andrea Klepzig, Jena Danieley, Christa Wilson, Judy Ladd, B.J. Wheeler, Michelle Pritchett, Angela Cook, Karen McDowell, Kris Tucker, Travis Hardy, Rick Eaves, Brad Bouchard, Matt Hull, and Matt Stewart.
• The Farmington Public Library would hold a “Make Tracks to Your Library” summer reading program for Farmington students in grades kindergarten through fifth grade.

• Superintendent Dr. Bob Webb was honored for his “vision and direction” for the Farmington R-7 School District at his last school board meeting. Dr. Webb retired after 12 years in Farmington.
• The Farmington High School Theatre Guild would hold summer productions of “Steel Magnolias” and “Happy Daze”.
• Former Farmington resident Kevin Ross would have his voice heard in the Jim Carrey movie “The Truman Show”. Ross, along with his brother, Scott, was an editor for the film and was used for a voice-over portion in the movie.
• Joyce Ruebel was the featured “Golden Spoon” cook.
• New subscribers would receive two free medium pizzas from Little Caesars with a six month or longer subscription.
