Accidents injure motorcycle riders

Two area motorcycle riders received moderate injuries in separate accidents Monday in St. Francois and Cape Girardeau counties. Also on Monday, a Glenallen, Mo., woman received minor injuries in an accident in St. Francois County.

According to Missouri Highway Patrol reports, Thomas R. Buhler, 27, or Mineral Point, was westbound on Highway 8 at 2 p.m. when he lost control of his 2001 Honda motorcycle. The motorcycle overturned and struck a bluff about 8.1 miles west of Old Highway 8 in St. Francois County. Buhler was taken by ambulance to Mineral Area Regional Medical Center. Damage to the motorcycle was listed as total.

At 2:41 p.m. Monday, two motorcycles collided on Route K, about two miles west of Cape Girardeau. According to the reports, Farmington resident Edward L. Courtney, 56, was westbound on a 2000 Yamaha V-Star motorcycle and Fredericktown resident Lindell R. Edmonds, 50, was westbound on a 2001 Yamaha Roadstar motorcycle. A vehicle traveling in front of them stopped abruptly in the road after failing to yield at the stop sign on County Road 318 at Route K.

When the two men tried to avoid a collision with that vehicle, Courtney’s motorcycle struck the rear of Edmonds’ motorcycle. Courtney was taken by ambulance to St. Francois  Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. No injuries were listed for Edmonds. Both motorcycles received minor damage.

Also according to reports, two vehicles collided at 5:10 p.m. Monday on U.S. 67, just south of Route Y in St. Francois County.

Ronald D. Chadd, 66, of Glenallen, was southbound in an uninsured 2004 Chevrolet Impala, according to the Highway Patrol report. A southbound 2000 Dodge Dakota driven by Mark A. Ayers, 44, of Farmington, struck the rear of Chadd’s vehicle. Charlene G. Chadd, 67, a passenger in the Impala who was wearing a seat belt, received minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to Jefferson Memorial Hospital. No injuries were listed for Ayers. Damage to the Impala was listed as total and damage to the Dakota was listed as minor.
