The Madison Medical Center Board of Trustees met at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 11, 2008 for their regular monthly meeting. The following board members were present: Melba Fadler, Arthur Myers, Mike Baker, and Kent Marler. Bob Schwent was absent. MMC staff present were Rodney Gross, administrator; Lisa Twidwell, CFO; Jennifer Penuel COO/Human Resources Director; Kristen Starkey, Long Term Care DON; Carol Hyatt, Physician Office Manager; Marty Lynch, Home Health Director; Joe Barnhouse, Purchasing Director; Maureen Medley, Administrative Assistant. Cindy Dulaney, Acute Care DON was absent.
The board approved a resolution to re-finance the hospital’s bonds, which will save the facility a substantial amount of money. The County commission approved this action on Monday, June 9, 2008.
There were 501 patients seen in the E.R. during May. There were 36 surgery cases, 106 EMS runs, 3 air transports from the hospital and 3 from the scene.
During the month of May , there were 4 admissions to the nursing home and 3 deaths. In addition to their regular activities, the nursing home residents will celebrate Father’s Day on June 15. Each of the male residents will receive a red carnation to wear.
There were 244 Home Health visits and 3085 in-home service units provided during May 2008.
There were 1517 Rural Health Clinic visits and 181 Outpatient Clinic visits during May 2008.
An employee recognition reception was held on Wednesday, May 21. Lab was selected as the Department of the Year and will be treated to a catered lunch on June 17. Nan Allgier, Lab Manager, received the Administrative Management Award. Delores Weekley, who works in the Physical Therapy Department, was recognized for her thirty years of service at MMC.
MMC hopes to begin its cardiac rehab program very soon, since the last piece of equipment has now been received.
Quotes for the annual renewal of MMC’s employee health insurance were discussed. The current provider is the least expensive and will probably be retained. A final decision will be made at next month’s board meeting.
The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Board of Trustees will be held on Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at 9:00 a.m. in the Dr. Slaughter Memorial Building.
