Upcoming local sports events

Local sports events will be announced in the Daily Journal on Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday for two weeks preceding the event. Please send an announcement of your upcoming event to the sports department no sooner than three weeks before the event or its registration deadline by either phone 431-2010, FAX 431-7640, or drop it off in person at the Daily Journal office in Park Hills.

Fall Leagues — Now

New local fall Baseball and Girls fast pitch league now forming. The boys will play USSSA rules and the girls will play NSA. Any coach wishing to bring their team please contact the number below. The games will be through the week and the age groups are for the Boys 10U and 12U and the girls will be 12U and 14U. Depending on how many teams we receive will determine what nights we will play on. The league will start in mid August and we are attempting to get it organized by the first of August. PH Soccer League — Now

Children ages 5-14 can now sign up for this Fall’s Park Hills soccer leagues. Eligible players must be five before September 1 and not 15 before January 1, 2008. The entry fee is $25 per player and the deadline is August 15. Persons wishing to play must bring a birth certificate and complete form at Park Hills City Hall. Coaches are needed for each of the league’s divisions and play begins September 6. Call the Parks Department at 431-0478 for more information.

BT Soccer League — Now

Soccer players wishing to play in the Bonne Terre Fall Soccer Leagues may sign up by going to www.bonneterre.net and clicking on its parks link to find the soccer registration form. For any questions cll Rob Strauser at 358-0604 or Dave Spray at 358-0301. Sign ups last until August 9 when the teams will be picked for the leagues.  

Basketball Sign-ups — July 19

The Mineral Area X-Treme girls basketball league will hold sign-ups for players in grades 3-6 on Friday, July 19 from 6-8 p.m. at the St. Paul gym in Farmington. Teams and individual players are welcome. For more information call 573-631-7675.

Football Camp — July 21-31

Central High School will hold its football camp for all interested students entering 9th through 12th grades. The camp will begin at  8-10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 21 and run through July 31 with morning and evening sessions. For more information contact Kory Schweiss at 747-3129.  

Physicals — July 25

West County High school will be holding physicals on July 25 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the high school students in grades 7-12 wishing to participate in sports during the 2008-09 year.

Softball Leagues — Aug. 8

Registration for Park Hills Fall men’s, church and coed softball leagues will begin at 9 a.m. on July 15 and will run until each league is full or until  5 p.m. August 8. To register, bring team fee to Park Hills City Hall. The Men’s League will play on Mondays and Wednesdays with a limit of 12 teams. The Fee is $215 per team. The Church League will play on Thursday’s with a limit of 10 teams and he fee is $190. The Co-ed League will play on Sundays with a limit of 16 teams, and the fee is $190. One dozen softballs will be provided each team. For more information contact the Parks Dept. at 431-0478.
