PARK HILLS — Horse shows will highlight the kickoff of the 135th St. Francois County Fair this week. St. Francois County Fair Board Vice-president Donnie Davis said he is very encouraged with the number of phone calls he has received about the horse shows.
“Judging from the number of calls requesting information, I think we are going to have a very good turnout,” Davis said. “The weather forecast so far is good for both Tuesday and Wednesday. I don’t see any reason why we won’t have big shows.”
Anticipation of a large turnout is what led to the Missouri Western Horse Show Association breaking the show up into two nights.
“By breaking the show into two nights we avoid having late night shows in the middle of the week,” Davis said.
The first night of the show will feature speed events and will get underway at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. The second night will feature all of the other events and will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Equine-related events will continue on Friday with Cowboy Mounted Shooting. The shoot will get under way at 7 p.m.
On Saturday a junior horse show will be held at 9 a.m. The draft horse show will get under way at 11 a.m. and Central 4D will host a speed show at 6 p.m. Exhibition barrels will take place at 3:30 p.m.
Special VIP seating is still available for the 7:30 p.m. Confederate Railroad concert on Thursday night. The tickets are $13 a piece and can be purchased at the fairgrounds during the fair. For more information contact USA Drug or Quality Healthcare.
In addition to the concert on Thursday, the Memphis Boys will be performing at 7 p.m. Friday. Following the tractor pull on Saturday Whiskey Creek will also be performing courtesy of Hub’s Pub. Both concerts are free with general admission to the fair.
Gate admission to the fair will be $4 on July 22, $5 on July 23 and $6 July 24-26. Season passes can be purchased for $15 in advance at Miller Feed Store, MFA in Farmington, the University of Missouri Extension Office, or from any fair board member.
