Washington County Deputy Todd Mahaney has been named the new special investigator for Washington County.

Mahaney was hired by Prosecuting Attorney John Rupp this month and officially begins his new job Aug. 1. The special investigator investigates crimes involving child and sexual abuse.

Bev Gillam resigned from the position this summer to take a position with Franklin County. Before that, Denise Brown was the special investigator. They had each served two years.

Mahaney has been a deputy for about a year. He has been a law enforcement officer since 2002.
