Economy struggles, but casino revenue up
Tuesday, August 12, 2008
The latest figures from the Missouri Gaming Commission shows that overall casino gambling revenue rose 7 percent in July to nearly $147 million. The Lumiere Place casino in St. Louis had revenue of $14.3 million. The downtown casino opened in December.
The big loser was another downtown St. Louis casino, the President. It’s revenue declined 75 percent — not surprising since the casino that sits directly on the Mississippi River was closed for half the month due to the flood.
The biggest gainer was the Mark Twain casino in La Grange, whose revenue increased 14 percent.
