Art Walk on Friday
Wednesday, August 20, 2008
Studios and galleries which have committed to participate are: Center for the Arts at Fourth Street and Market; Shaded Lane Arts and Gifts on Market at Lions Park; the Galleria Ste Genevieve, Studio de Michel, Lulu’s Studio & Antiques, Studio 221 and Only Child Originals all on Main Street; the Stained Glass Shop on Merchant and the Mo'sArt Studio at Southern Hotel on Third Street. Walking maps for the event will be available at any of these locations during regular business hours and on Aug. 22.
People are invited to visit one of the locations to view the artworks, have a refreshment, meet the artist(s) and pick up a map of the other open venues to continue their walk. Each venue plans to have a new theme, new art exhibit or something different each month for those who wish to put this event on their calendars.
Some venues are planning to invite regional musicians and artists to participate by offering them space to play or show their work. Artists may contact any of the participating studios and galleries for further information. Other Ste Genevieve businesses are being invited to participate by being open later during the monthly Fourth Friday event.
The Visitor’s (Great River Road Interpretive) Center on Main is also an art venue which will be open during regular business hours. Art enthusiasts who arrive early may see the Art Colony artworks from the 1930s and the Roscoe Misselhorn exhibit.
A new, locally produced, cable television show, Art'n About - Focus on the Arts in the Mississippi River Valley, will air on Ste Genevieve Community Access Television, Charter Channel 98. The first program, airing Aug. 21, features the art of Sam (Conlon) Henderson of Only Child Originals. Weekly air dates for this new Focus on the Arts program will be on Thursdays at 8 a.m., 2 p.m., 8 p.m. and 2 a.m.
