In only the second day of the new season, the Potosi Lady Trojans and the North County Lady Raiders are both 2-0. Both teams picked up wins in their conference opener on Tuesday with Potosi beating Farmington, and North County taking down Ste. Genevieve, two teams which also had won on Monday.

North County 5, Ste. Genevieve 0

STE. GENEVIEVE
— The Lady Raiders pitching has not given up a run so far as Katie Gibson threw a 5-0, two-hit shut-out over the Ste. Genevieve Hunters to complete a one-two punch started by Jennifer Hackworth on Monday over Cuba.

Gibson gave up the two hits in the third inning. It was the only time the Hunters threatened the senior’s shut-out. Leticia Hindrichs pitched for the Hunters, but received no offensive backing.

The Lady Raiders could only muster five hits of their own, but they were opportune hits with Gibson coming up with the big hit, a two run double. Brittney O’Connell (2-3) was the only player with more than one hit. Hackworth and Heather Shannon were each 1-3. Brittany Basler had one of the Hunters two hits.

The Lady Raiders will be at home to face Fredericktown on Thursday, and Ste. Genevieve (1-1) will host Festus tonight.

Potosi 3, Farmington 2

FARMINGTON
— A slip-up in the top of the seventh was costly for the Farmington Knightettes. The Potosi Lady Trojans broke a 2-2 tie to score a run which went unanswered in the bottom of the inning for a 3-2 win.

Jinnger Rogers was the winning pitcher, spreading out eight hits and shutting down Farmington in all but the fifth inning.  Erin Littrell took the loss, allowing only six hits. Both pitchers relied heavily on their defense as they both struck out only one batter.

Hitters for Farmington were Natalie Hoehn with two hits and Chelsea Thomure, Katherine Sitzes, Allie Trask, Kristin Meinershagen, Beth Meyer and Littrell all had one hit each.

Potosi will host Ste. Genevieve on Thursday, and Farmington (1-1) will be at Central.

GIRLS GOLF

Oakville 220, Farmington 230, Mehlville 240

OAKVILLE
— The Farmington Knightettes shot 230 as a team and opened their season with a win-one, lose-one tri-match with Oakville at 220 and Mehlville at 240 at the Quail Creek Country Club.

The Knightettes were led by Brittany Ernst with a 53, Veronica Hyde shot a 58, Betsy Call scored a 62 and Katie Simpson finished with a 67.

“Most of our girls are fairly new. It’s good for them to get this one behind them. They can put away the first game jitters and relax now,” said Farmington golf coach Craig Gibbs.

The Knightettes do not play again until September 2 when they will host Clayton.
