Football season opens to changes at stadium

There are going to be some new changes at Haile Memorial Stadium at Farmington High School for next week’s home game. Among them are a new concession stand, new parking and seating.

The new home parking lot can be accessed by taking Columbia Street to Hyler Drive, which goes straight back and dead ends into the parking lot. There will be two ticket gates, one on each side of the stadium.

New bleachers are on the home side with a new concession stand to be run by the athletic boosters. These are some of the other new changes to the stadium. Workers are also in the process of paving the parking lot on Liberty Street.

Farmington High School Athletic Director Pat Burns says “When the new football field was put in everything shifted down and seating was lost. With an increase in crowds the past couple of years the decision was made to add the bleachers, concession and parking lot to accommodate the fans.”

The new bleachers are also a way to eliminate people standing on the track. This way no one has to cross and if you need to go on the other side, school faculty and others will be available to help fans.

The north side parking by Parkland hospital will be for the band members and athletes, while home fans are encouraged to park in the new lot off Hyler drive. Visitor parking is now the high school parking lot, and the handicap-accesible parking stayed the same.

“There will be officers on hand to help monitor the traffic exiting onto Columbia street after the game so traffic will move smoothly,” said Farmington Police Chief Rick Baker.

The bleachers will have signs to indicate where people should sit as well as what is reserved for the band members and students. Burns also says that all construction will be completed by next Friday’s game.

If you have any questions regarding the changes to the stadium you are encouraged to call the Farmington Athletic Department at (573) 701-1310.
