Arcadia Valley wins tennis opener

IRONTON — The outcome of a closely contested tennis match between Arcadia Valley and North County hinged on an exciting tie-break at the No. 3 singles ranking on Thursday.
After splitting their first 16 games for an 8-8 tie, Anna Reynolds slipped past Alyssa Yates 9-7 during the extra session, and helped Arcadia Valley claim a narrow 5-4 triumph overall.
Reynolds also teamed with Jayne Rey for an 8-2 win in No. 1 doubles over Chelsea Senter and Shelby Mund. Rey picked up a singles win by the same margin over Rey.
Kassie Leahy posted two 8-4 results for the Lady Tigers as well, defeating Alicia Price in singles action while combining with Alyssa Waddell in doubles play.
North County collected three singles victories on the afternoon. Mund topped Waddell 8-2, Brittany Ford bested Katie Buck 8-5 and Alex Perry outlasted Rachel Reynolds 8-6.
Ford and Perry earned their first win as a doubles pairing with an 8-4 decision.
FALL BASEBALL
West County 17, Lesterville 4
LESTERVILLE — Kyle Nettles finished 3-for-3 with four RBI and Josh Gidden drove in two runs in a 2-for-2 effort on Thursday, as West County began its fall baseball campaign with a dominant 17-4 victory at Lesterville.
Cody Watson returned from injury with a two-run single for West County, which also had singles from returning starters Tyler Stacy and Trevor Kean. Freshman Zac Turner pitched two innings for the win.
Brandon Turner, Justin Lashley, Zac Turner and Jesse Waters each collected their first varsity hit for the Bulldogs, who will host Clearwater today.
