Lady Cardinals take third at McKendree

LEBANON, IL - The Mineral Area Lady Cardinals played in the McKendree Volleyball Tournament on Friday and Saturday and finished with a 3-2 record, good enough for third place.

Mineral Area took first place in their pool play on Friday. The Lady Cardinals started out by defeating the host team McKendree by a score of 25-13, 26-24.

In their second match, they played John A. Logan, which they had beaten on Wednesday at home, but it would be different on Friday as Logan gave MAC their first loss of the new year 25-22, 25-23. The Lady Cardinals finished off the pool play with a 25-22, 25-11 win over Springfield, Illinois.

In bracket play on Saturday, the Lady Cardinals were off to a good start by sailing past Kaskaskia 25-19, 25-18, but they were stopped again by the slightest margin 25-23, 25-23 by Southwest Illinois College to claim third place.

Leading in digs for Saturday’s games was Chelsea Pinson with 33 total, and Kelsey Davault made 22 along with three aces on serve. Carissa Garber led in kills with 14 and Milica Balandzic had 13.

The Lady Cardinals are now 8-2 on the season and will play next at Jefferson College on Tuesday.
