Lady Tigers and Lady Cats secure MAAA wins

ARCADIA — The Arcadia Valley Lady Tigers improved to 2-0 in the MAAA Conference with a 5-4 win over the Potosi Lady Trojans in their season opener on Tuesday.

Arcadia Valley won two doubles matches and three singles. Alyssa Waddell and Kassie Leahy were 8-5 winners over Allison Bonney and Kayla Doss in No. 2 singles, and Katie Buck and Rachel Reynolds were 8-4 winners over Olivia Kwan and Chala Doss in No. 3 doubles.

Jayne Rey defeated Melissa McGuire at No. 1 singles,  Anna Reynolds beat Allison Bonney by a score of 8-4, and Leahy finished off Kwan 8-6. 

Potosi’s Melissa McGuire and Kelsey Fitzwater combined for an 8-5 win over Arcadia Valley’s Anna Reynolds and Rey in No. 1 doubles.

Fitzwater defeated Waddell in singles 8-4, Kayla Doss beat Katie Buck 8-4, and Chala Doss won 8-2 over Whitney Yancey.

Both teams will be in action on Thursday with Potosi hosting Farmington and Arcadia Valley traveling to Fredericktown.



Fredericktown 5, North County 4

FREDERICKTOWN
— The Fredericktown Lady Cats and North County Lady Raiders were both seeking their first win of the season on Tuesday, but it was the home team which prevailed as the Lady Cats pulled off a 5-4 win.

The Lady Cats claimed wins in two of the three doubles matches with Asha Ayyagari and Alison Clover winning 8-2 over Chelsea Senter and Shelby Mund, and Emily Godsey and Shelby Seabaugh won 8-6 over Brittany Ford and Alex Perry.

North County’s Alyssa Yates and Alicia Perry won the No. 2 doubles with a score of 8-4 over Samantha Pinkley and Kacelyn Alexander.

In singles it was Ayyagari over Senter 8-0, Pinkley beat Mund 8-3, Clover lost to Yates 8-3, Seabaugh fell 8-1 to Ford and Alexander was shutout by Perry 8-0.

Fredericktown (1-3) will host Arcadia Valley on Thursday and North County (0-3) will travel to Potosi on Tuesday.

Farmington 5, Poplar Bluff 4

POPLAR BLUFF
— The Farmington Knightettes continued their undefeated season on Tuesday with a 5-4 non-conference win over Poplar Bluff.

Katelyn Crocker took over the No. 1 singles spot for the Knightettes and dealt out an 8-5 win over her opponent. Alicia Murray was an 8-4 winner, Courtney Jensen won 8-1 and Mackenzie Coleman pulled out a win at 8-5.  

Murray and Jensen collected Farmington’s only doubles win, 8-6.

Farmington (3-0) will travel to Potosi on Thursday for their next meet.
