Central, West County, Potosi and Fredericktown are first-day winners

ARCADIA — The Central Lady Rebels kept just out of reach of he Arcadia Valley Lady Tigers to post a 25-16, 25-22 win in their cross-conference win.

Jennie Babb served up six aces and six kills to bolster the Lady Rebels scoring. Elizabeth Hartupee and Jaycee Haus had four kills apiece, and Haus also made two solo blocks. Alicia Sebastian led the team in digs with seven, and Tori Boyer led in assists with nine.

Madison Mason served the most points for the Lady Tigers with 12, Courtney Rice led in kills with six and Candice Kirby had five assists. Gayle Williams made four kills and had two stuff blocks.

West County 2, South Iron 0

ANNAPOLIS — A West County volleyball squad that features just four varsity returners from last season enjoyed a strong season opener on Tuesday night with a 25-15, 25-20 victory at South Iron.

Lengthy scoring runs were headed by Chelsie Lashley with 18 points and four aces, and Rikki Lashley with 10 points and two aces. Senior Becca Appel made four kills and setter Taylor Watson had five assists.

Brittany Tongay and Chelsie Lashley led the West County defense with four digs each, and Cassie Patterson chipped in two kills. The Lady Bulldogs will host Bunker on Thursday.

Fredericktown 2, Herculaneum 0

HERCULANEUM — The Fredericktown Lady Cats achieved their first goal of the new season by defeating the Herculaneum Lady Blackcats 25-22, 25-19 in their opening game.

Lauren Henderson led the team in attacks with eight kills. Kylie Oertel made three blocks and three assists. Allison McDowell set up 22 kills and Chelsea Mills had four aces with Melea Fall leading the team in service points with eight.

Potosi 2, Union 0

POTOSI — The Potosi Lady Trojans gave head-coach Gary Mims a pleasing performance in their opening night of volleyball. The Lady Trojans defeated Union 25-20, 25-21.

Lauren Aubuchon led the team in kills with eight. She also had two blocks and 10 digs. Ashley Thompson served eight points and made five kills and four blocks. Jordan Harbison and Sarah Forbes had 10 assists each.

Potosi will travel to St. Clair on Thursday for their second match.

St. Pius 2, North County 1

FESTUS — St. Pius rallied for a 20-25, 25-20, 25-16 volleyball triumph on Tuesday night after visiting North County prevailed in the opening game.

Tia Propst knocked down four kills and Abby Montgomery collected three for the Lady Raiders (0-1). Kassi Hovis set for 11 assists and middle hitter Ashley Lotz made three blocks.

North County will travel to De Soto on Thursday.

Crystal City 2, Ste. Genevieve 0

STE. GENEVIEVE — The Ste. Genevieve Hunters fell victim to a heavily upper-class Crystal City Lady Hornets team 25-20, 25-19 in their 2008 debut.

Kristin Faulkner served four points and made five assists for the Hunters. Allison Gettinger made six kills and had three stuff blocks, and Tisha Meyer had five kills and six assists.

The Hunters will play next on Friday and Saturday in the Notre Dame Tournament in Cape Girardeau.
