Farmington, Bismarck and Valle open with volleyball road wins

CAPE GIRARDEAU — The Farmington volleyball team opened its season successfully on the road Thursday night, ousting Cape Notre Dame in straight games 25-22, 25-17.

Cassie Garcilaso knocked down nine kills to lead the Knightettes (1-0), while Molly Barnes and Lauren Peterson added four each.

Bismarck 2, Crystal City 1

CRYSTAL CITY
— The Bismarck Lady Indians gained revenge for a season-opening loss from last season by rallying past Crystal City 24-26, 25-16, 25-14 in a battle of defending district champions on Thursday night.

Brooke Taylor began her junior campaign with impressive totals of 23 kills, 16 digs and four blocks, while opposite hitter Harley Cadwell had eight kills, four blocks and 10 digs to lead the Lady Indians (1-0).

Sophomore setter Balee Lorenz finished with 20 assists, and senior Holly Blunt led the defense with nine digs.

Valle 2, Windsor 0

IMPERIAL
— Kelly Hermann served five aces among 16 points on Thursday night, as Valle enjoyed its season debut with a 25-19, 25-20 triumph at Windsor.

Hermann also made 12 serve receptions, and shared the team lead in kills with Kelsey Abt and Allisyn Dalton with four. Dalton also finished with seven assists and two solo blocks to lead the Lady Warriors.

Kelci Meyer brought up five digs and Hannah Kuenzel added three kills for Valle (1-0).

Fredericktown 2, South Iron 1

ANNAPOLIS
— Junior Lauren Henderson was a force at the net with eight blocks and seven kills, and also served five aces on Thursday as Fredericktown stormed past South Iron in game three for a 21-25, 25-22, 25-12 victory.

Chelsea Mills added three kills and four aces while matching Mallory Allgier with three digs. Allison McDowell compiled 16 assists and Abbie Tinnin made three kills for the Lady Cats (2-0), who posted back-to-back wins for the first time in two years.



Valley 3, Marquand 1

CALEDONIA
— The Valley volleyball squad hosted a best-of-five match against non-conference opponent Marquand on Thursday night, and easily controlled the final two games for a 25-14, 12-25, 25-13, 25-13 victory.

Transfer Jessica Crocker paced the Lady Vikings with 13 kills and two aces. Danielle Johnson served nine aces and matched Kaitlin Holbert with a team-high six aces. Holbert also made five assists in the contest.

Bourbon 2, Kingston 0

BOURBON
— The Kingston Lady Cougars suffered their first setback of the season on Thursday as host Bourbon claimed a 25-13, 25-19 win.

Emilee Dicus recorded seven kills and Lacie Pashia made three more for the Lady Cougars (1-1). Senior setter Miranda Politte finished with eight assists and eight points.

St. Clair 2, Potosi 0

ST. CLAIR
— The young Potosi volleyball team battled host St. Clair to the wire in game one before falling 25-22, 25-17 on Thursday night.

Sophomore Ashley Thompson had a strong match at the net with eight kills and three stuff-blocks, while returning senior Lauren Aubuchon added four kills with a team-high seven digs for Potosi (1-1).

Sarah Forbes served seven points and compiled nine assists while sharing the setting duties with Jordan Harbison, who finished with six assists. Casey Nivens added four points.

Bunker 2, West County 1

LEADWOOD
— A series of tough breaks against West County late in the decisive third stanza spelled a 25-18, 18-25, 25-21 victory for visiting Bunker on Thursday.

Senior Becca Appel posted six kills and four digs with a team-high 16 service points for the Lady Bulldogs (1-1). Rikki Lashley chipped in three aces with six digs, and Brittany Tongay finished with 12 points.
