Remnants of Hurricane Ike leaves local residents without power Sunday
The remnants of Hurricane Ike delivered a strong blast of winds and rain in Madison County Sunday morning. Madison County was under a flood watch Monday until 9:30 A.M.. Wind gusts of 30 to 50 mph accompanied the heavy rainfall Sunday morning. The wind downed numerous trees and resulted in scattered power outages across southern Missouri according to the National Weather Service.

Fredericktown had a city wide power failure from about 8 am to 3 pm Sunday due to winds knocking down tree limbs on transmission lines through Ameren UE.

Assisting with clean-up in the aftermath of Tropical Depression Ike, Interim City Administrator Jim Dismuke said, Fredericktown City residents can leave ”manageable” branches at the curb for pick-up by city workers. Branches should be small enough for one or two city workers to handle. Dismuke complimented all city departments on their response to the storm. “Dismuke said, “They did a great job responding. “Service was fully restored in Fredericktown by Sunday evening

Black River Electric website reported strong winds brought down as many as 50 poles during Sunday’s storm. As of 5 AM Monday morning, approximately 6,000 BREC members throughout the co-op's 10 county service area are without power. Crews from three Missouri cooperatives are arriving today to assist with restoration efforts.  Consolidated Electric Cooperative, Mexico; Three Rivers Electric Cooperative, Linn and Macon Electric Cooperative. Even with the additional help. Full restoration may take days according to the website.

Black River Electric reminds everyone that power lines are energized. Do not try to remove trees from power lines or move power lines from tree limbs.
