HERCULANEUM — The Potosi Trojans scored five unanswered touchdowns in the first three quarters, and their smothering defense gave up only one in the fourth quarter after the subs were in for a 35-7 win over the Herculaneum Blackcats Friday night.
The Trojans offense had extra opportunities due to the defense collecting on five turnovers by the Blackcats. Defensive back Damian Beacham and linebackers Adam Bouse and Brad Wright all made an interception of a Blackcats pass, and along with a pair of fumbles recovered by the defense, it gave the offense little rest time on the sidelines.
The extra chances was fine for running back Brandon Bourbon and quarterback Matt Marler. Bourbon carried the ball 13 times for 196 yards and cashed in three carries for six points each. Marler threw one touchdown and was 4-8 for 53 yards.
Bourbon scored on a 12-yard run in the first quarter which was capped by a pass from Tanner Glore to Dylan Wyrick. Bourbon broke one for 95 yards in the second quarter for his second touchdown, and added his third just two minutes before the half on a 44-yard sprint.
Bouse ran his interception back 34 yards for a touchdown between Bourbon’s second and third score, and Marler connected on three of four PAT attempts.
Potosi’s last touchdown came in the third quarter on a 29-yard pass from Marler to receiver Danny Rulo. Rulo made three catches in the game for 56 yards. Deondre Green ran the ball nine times for 36 yards and Beacham carried the ball three times for 21.
Will Dobbs led the team in solo tackles with 10, Hunter Belfield and Glore had six apiece and Bouse and Wright made five each.
Potosi, 3-1, will host Perryville this Friday for their Homecoming Game.
