Knightettes win ninth straight conference title

FARMINGTON — With their 9-0 win on Tuesday over the Potosi Trojans, the Farmington Knightettes (6-0) captured their ninth straight MAAA Conference championship with a three-match lead and only two more to play.

The Knightettes last loss in a conference came at the hand of the Fredericktown Lady Cats in 2004, when both teams shared the title at 9-1. Since the turn of the millennium the Knightettes have amassed a record of 78-2. Their only other loss was also to Fredericktown in 2000, and Arcadia Valley was the last team to win the conference in 1999.

The Knightettes lost only seven games to the Lady Trojans, pulling shut-outs in No. 1 and 2 doubles and No. 3 and 4 singles. Courtney Jensen and Alicia Murray won at No. 1 over Melissa McGuire and Kelsey Fitzwater, and Megan Politte and Jenny May were winners in No. 2 doubles over Allison Bonney and Kayla Doss.

Katie Brady and Kayla Edgar were winners of the No. 3 doubles over Olivia Kwan and Chala Doss.

In singles, Jensen won out over McGuire 8-1, Murray beat Fitzwater 8-2, Heather Lewis shut out Bonney 8-0, and Kaitlyn Crocker shut out Kwan 8-0. Mackenzie Coleman won the No. 5 singles 8-2 over Kayla Doss, and Audrey Comfort was an 8-1 winner over Chala Doss.

Farmignton, 9-1, will host Arcadia Vallley this afternoon, and Potosi, 3-4, will will host Fredericktown at the same time.

ARCADIA
— The Arcadia Valley Lady Tigers reversed their earlier loss to the Fredericktown Lady Cats on Tuesday with a 5-4 win. The Lady Tigers had to win four of the six singles matches to pull out the win.

Only Alyssa Waddell and Kassie Leahy won at doubles for the Lady Tigers by defeating Emily Godsey and Shelby Seabaugh.

Asha Ayyagarri and Samantha Pinkley were 8-6 winners in No. 1 doubles for the Lady Cats, defeating Anna Reynolds and Jayne Rey, and Alison Clover and Kacelyn Alexander edged out Janie Buck and Rachel Reynolds 9-8 with an 8-6 tie-break.

Winners in singles for the Lady Cats were Waddell over Pinkley 9-7, Leahy over Godsey 8-3, Anna Reynolds over Clover 8-4, and  Rachel Reynolds over Alexander 8-4.

For the Lady Cats, Ayyagari defeated Rey 8-4 in No. 1 singles, and Seabaugh bested Buck 8-6.

Fredericktown, 2-6, will travel to Potosi this afternoon for their next meet, and Arcadia Valley, 4-3, will be at Farmington.
