Trojans win Hancock again, Knights and Tigers place fourth

ST. LOUIS — For the seventh year in a row, the Potosi Trojans have reigned as the top Class 3 cross country team in the Hancock Invitational Meet held at Jefferson Barracks. With a score of 52 as a team, the Trojans bested second-place Cape Notre Dame by 10 points and third place Lutheran South by 100 points. Farmington placed fourth at 152.
The meet was broken down into three races with teams from Class 1 and 2 schools in one race, Class 3 in another race, and Class 4 in the third race.
Jacob Swearingen led the Trojans and all of the other runners in Class 3 with the best time of all three races at 16:21.29. It was Swearingen’s fourth straight meet this year with a first place finish.
The first six runners in Class 3 finished with better times than any runner in the other two races. Nick Niggemann for Potosi took second at 16:22.6. Potosi had two more runners medal in the meet (best 15 times). Freshman Justin Doss came in eighth at 17:19.01, and Jacob Mathis finished 15th at 17:41.68.
Devin Hampton came in 31st at 18:16, a full minute off of his time three weeks before on the same course.
Other MAAA runners who medaled in Class 3 were Erich Diesel of Ste. Genevieve with a fourth place time of 16:56.75, and Wooldridge placed 14th for Farmington with a time of 17:37.58.
Caleb Sutton took first place in the Class 1 & 2 to lead Arcadia Valley to a fourth-place finish with a total of 120 points. Herculaneum was first with 25. Sutton’s time was 17:33.48.
Potosi’s Sarah White took first place in the Class 3 girls race with a time of 19:43.46.
Ste. Genevieve took first place as a team with a total of 46 points. Lydia Huelskamp came in 5th at 20:33.45, Jennifer Bauman was seventh at 20:41.44, and Nicole Rottler came in 14th at 21:22.21. Farmington placed ninth as a team with 263 points.
