MAC welcomes new instructors
Mineral Area College’s fall semester is well under way with several new faces among faculty.
Sharon Reeves is the college’s new biology instructor, having worked for Farmington High School for the past five years. Reeves earned her bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in biology from Truman State University, with post-graduate studies at Saint Louis University.
Christopher J. Otto is one of two new English instructors, coming to MAC from Moberly Area Community College. He earned his bachelor’s degree in English at Truman State University; his master’s degree in English from Southeast Missouri State University; and his master’s degree in library and information science from the University of Missouri.
Otto is a member of Missouri Association of Teachers of English (MATE); National Council on Teaching English (NCTE); Two Year College Association (TYCA); College English Association; and the Faulkner Society.
Cathy Hutcheson, MAC’s new instructor in the licensed practical nursing (LPN) program, most recently worked as a nursing instructor in the associate’s degree nursing (ADN) program at Three Rivers Community College in Poplar Bluff. She also taught four years at Sikeston Public School’s LPN Program, where she began her career in nursing education by attending classes there in 1993.
Hutcheson bridged into the ADN program at Park College’s program in Sikeston, graduating in 1994, and earned her bachelor’s degree from Southeast Missouri State University in 2000.
Lynne Wisdom is the college’s new business instructor, having worked as a marketing officer for First State Community Bank and a business and accounting instructor for Central Methodist University. She earned her associate’s degree at MAC; bachelor’s degrees in both business and psychology from Central Methodist University; and a master’s in business administration from Webster University. She is a member of the Farmington Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.
Daniel Jaycox is another of two new English instructor at MAC this year, having taught for the college part-time in the past, as well as for Southeast Missouri State University. He earned a bachelor’s degree in mass communication, and a master’s degree in English, from SEMO.
Chad Follis is the community college’s new horticulture instructor. He earned his associate’s degree at MAC. He earned his bachelor’s degree in General Agriculture Plant Science Emphasis, and his master’s degree in turfgrass management, from University of Missouri-Columbia.
Before coming to MAC, Follis worked as a turfgrass agronomist for Integrated Turfgrass Solutions in Kalamazoo, Mich. He is a member of Missouri Vocational Agriculture Teachers Association, Missouri Association Career Tech Education, and the Sports Turf Managers Association.
Melissa Stephens is MAC’s new modern foreign language department chair and Spanish instructor. She earned her associate’s degree from Three Rivers Community College, and her bachelor’s degree in Spanish education from Arkansas State University.
Stephens earned her master’s degree in Spanish from University of Memphis. Before coming to MAC, she worked as a Spanish instructor for Arkansas State University. She is a member of Missouri Community College Association and the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages.
