Fingerprints, DNA analysis will take time
Police continue to investigate Wakefield abduction

Leadington police are investigating leads in the Kory Wakefield case, but resolving the case will take time, Chief Cledith Wakefield said Thursday.

“People think we’re like CSI,” he said of the television show that uses forensic investigation to wrap up crimes in an hour.

This is not the type of case that leads the FBI lab to put a rush on the fingerprint and DNA results, he added.

“We’re not on the fast track. There was no murder, so this is going to take a while,” the chief explained. “We’re still investigating.”

Tipsters have given the department four names of suspects. Police are investigating the names, but so far have only received photographs of two of the men. Eventually, they would like to present Kory with a photo lineup.

Investigators have not decided whether to have another sketch artist work with Kory to draw a likeness of the suspected abductor.

The 17-year-old told police he was abducted at gunpoint the morning of Sept. 15 as he was leaving his house to go to school. The man forced him to drive to Columbia, and then to the Atlanta Conservation Area in Macon County. Kory  managed to send two secret messages to his girlfriend before the man took his cell phone and shut it off. After Kory deliberately rammed his truck into a log pile on an old logging road, the abductor was picked up by a friend and Kory was able to call police for help, he told detectives.

So...

The most over-policed community in St. Francois County has the ONLY carjacking in the county, made no arrests,
has posted no information about any suspects, sent fingerprints to the FBI,
and... nothing...

That was Five months ago.

“We’re not on the fast track. There was no murder, so this is going to take a while,” the chief explained. “We’re still investigating.”

I'd like to call on the Daily Journal to update this story, and report whatever it hears, however informative it might or might not be.

If a Criminal who carjacks kids at gunpoint roams our streets, we have a right to know.

Hmmm....STILL WAITING on "Fingerprints".
Funny how these stories just dropped off the radar for the most-viewed.

Sunshine Laws anyone??

Carpet sale in Leadington!!!

Watch out, there is a bunch of crap underneath it.

They love making the headlines, but they never follow up.

I will again make my point.......

MINOR CHILD ABDUCTED AT GUN POINT IN HOMETOWN. 10 DAYS LATER, NO MORE REPORTS COME OUT.

Where is the daily update for the community? Where is the follow ups to the investigation? Why has this story simply dissapeared???

Our local governments expect us to sit back and just forget the violent crime that occoured less than 5 miles from 10,000 peoples homes????

Come on. I want to know what's going on, where the investigation is at, and when someone's butt is going to prison for this.

If not, I hope the local police understand why I carry a loaded gun with me.

If they can't solve the crimes in Leadington, if I travel thru, I feel I must treat it like St. Louis - loaded pistol between the seats...

God gave us the right to protect ourselves.

To 123456; Thanks, you're certainly right about it being kind of complicated...apparently all within a hundred yards or so, you're in PH, County or Leadington, depending *on which side of the street* you're coming from...

Gee, with all this confusion in the media, I almost forgot about the Chief's "Check Scandal" or is that what this is really about????

Joe_63640,,,,, the crime didn't happen in Park Hills,,,, it DID happen in Leadington,, that street where the teenager lives - college road, is kind of complicated, the mailing address is farmington, but it is in the Leadington city limits,,,

Joe - add to your question that somehow (could be wrong), but the victim is family to LPD cheif..... HMMMMMMM

hey - just one question...
and this *may* have been asked already, forgive me if I'm wrong, or just beating the same dead horse...

Why exactly is the Leadington police Dept investigating an alleged crime that took place in Park Hills?
see map at http://www.parkhillsmo.net/zoningmap.pdf

According to the story this seems like the alleged abduction actually took place in Park Hills...

This story will never be resolved. I'm surprised the LPD even commented on this. Kudos to the Journal for at least trying to keep the story in our minds, despite the big rug in Leadington.

WOW!!!

Minor abducted at gunpoint, NOT ON THE FAST TRACK TO CATCH THE PERP!!!

This is not a murder - COULD HAVE VERY EASILY BEEN!!!

Victim is family to the Cheif of police in Leadington, why is Leadington not giving the case to county or Highway Patrol? Unbiased investigation that way.

Maybe LPD has to cover something up???

And last and not least.. to Cheif Wakefield... don't worry, we don't think you are a CSI.... maybe a speedtrap town, maybe a wanna be highway patrol... but definatly not a CSI...

What people think you are like CSI? You're the one keeps bringing that up.

Given the artist's rendition from the previous story I would call it a safe bet that if they-the authorities, had pictures of just 2 of the 4 that they could be eliminated or immplicated in this devious plot. People don't think "we are like CSI" they think you are like "keystone cops!" Get it? I'm having trouble buying into the logic that leads me to believe anyone say that becasue this was not a Murder the investigation isn't a priority or it is proceeding-blame given to the FBI. However, to help with the investigatin look at DMV records and cross check the name with the Photo on the Driver's Liscense as most of all Missouri over the age of X has one. Also, ask the "suspects" to give a fingerprint sample and cross check that with the FBI database. My background check for Census Taker didn't take this long and it turned up my prints from my infraction in my "teen" years. Meanwhile, this is providing excellent fodder so keep us informed DJ. Anyone believe dragging the feet is synonymous to not quite adding up?
