Golfer Hyde qualifies for state

EUREKA, Mo. — The Farmington girls golf team finished eighth overall at the Class 2, District 1 tournament at Aberdeen Golf Course, but can celebrate sending one individual player to state.

Veronica Hyde of the Knightettes shot the ninth-best round of the day with a 94, as Farmington posted a team total of 474.

Ursuline Academy won the district match with 329, leaving a sizable margin between runner-up Cor Jesu with 378 and Nerinx Hall with 398. Audrey Dombrowski of Ursuline fired a medalist round of 79.

VOLLEYBALL

Valley 2, Arcadia Valley 1

IRONTON
— The Valley volleyball team emerged with one of its most prominent wins in recent years on Tuesday night, downing Arcadia Valley on the road 19-25, 25-21, 25-15.

“This was the best that we have played all year,” said Valley coach Caley Yount. “The girls moved their feet well, and only missed three serves for the entire match.”

Setter Kaitlin Holbert served five aces within 17 total points and dished out 10 assists, while Loren Rodgers added 15 points with four kills and four digs. Jessica Crocker posted team highs with eight kills, five digs and blocks, and Megan Midgett finished with 11 points for the Lady Vikings (4-10).

Courtney Rice and Madison Mason knocked down seven kills each, and Nichole Bone made 10 assists for Arcadia Valley (7-13-2).

Ste. Genevieve 2, North County 0

STE. GENEVIEVE
— The Ste. Genevieve Hunters rebounded from a narrow loss one night earlier to handle North County 25-9, 25-15 in conference action on Tuesday night.

Kristen Faulkner tallied 10 assists with three blocks and four kills, and Tisha Meyer posted six kills plus nine assists for Ste. Genevieve (14-5-4). Allison Gettinger and Holley Fox each had four kills and one block, while Lindsey Gray matched Fox with eight service points each.

Ste. Genevieve improved to 2-0 alongside Central atop the MAAA Large-School division standings. The Hunters will travel to Potosi on Thursday.

Central 2, Fredericktown 1

FREDERICKTOWN
— The Central volleyball team successfully adjusted its defense to a dangerous Fredericktown attack, and rallied in the final two games on Tuesday night for a 23-25, 25-20, 25-23 conference win.

Jaycee Haus knocked down seven kills and made eight digs, while Jennie Babb collected six kills and Elizabeth Hartupee added five in a balanced hitting effort for Central (11-8-2).

Lauren Henderson slammed nine kills and five aces, while Kylie Oertel added four kills and two blocks to lead Fredericktown (13-11). Chelsea Mills brought up nine digs and matched Melia Fall with a team-high 10 points for the Lady Cats. Setter Allison McDowell finished with 15 assists and nine points.

Fredericktown held a 24-14 lead in game one before dropping nine straight points against the serve of libero Alicia Sebastian. A strong Henderson kill finally sealed the stanza for the home team.

Tori Boyer made 12 assists and Megan Simpson tallied eight in the victory. Simpson and Taylor Bollinger each served four aces. Babb landed a short kill on the lone match point for Central.

Bismarck 2, Kingston 0

CADET
— Bismarck won its 10th consecutive match and improved to 7-0 in Small-School division play on Tuesday night with a dominant 25-11, 25-10 triumph at Kingston.

Balee Lorenz recorded 19 assists and Harley Cadwell made five kills with five blocks for Bismarck (19-2-3). Brooke Taylor served 17 points and connected for eight kills with four blocks, while Tori Henson and Holly Blunt each made five digs.

Jacie Missey tallied six kills and Lacey Pashia added four to lead Kingston (3-9). Miranda Politte finished with six assists and Becky Brown made three blocks.

SOFTBALL

St. Pius 4, Central 2

FESTUS
— The Central softball team improved its defense on Tuesday by committing no errors after making 11 on Monday, but host St. Pius capitalized on nine walks received for a 4-2 home victory.

Bethany Glore finished 3-for-3 with a double, and Addie Scoggin went 2-for-3 to lead the Lady Rebels. Taylor Friend and Erin St. Gemme added doubles, while Ashley Coplin and Sarah Tripp chipped in singles.

Friend allowed five hits and struck out two in the loss. Central (7-16) will begin district tournament action today against Potosi.
