Knightettes second in tennis districts, Lady Raiders win Cuba Meet

SIKESTON — The Farmington Knightettes tennis team participated in the Class 1, District 1 Meet on Thursday and had great results. Out of 12 teams, the Knightettes placed second earning them the honor of advancing as a team to the regionals meet to be held on October 13-15. The Knightettes finished with a total of 27.5 points. Kennett took first with 30.5 points.
Individual honors went to Courtney Jensen and Alicia Murray who won first place in doubles. The first-place finish guarantees the pair a berth in the state championships on October 24-25. Heather Lewis took fourth place in singles for Farmington.
Cross Country
CUBA — The North County’s cross country teams ran at the Cuba Invitational Meet on Thursday and the Lady Raiders won first place with the Raiders taking second in their race.
The Lady Raiders won first place over eight other schools with a total of 44 points.
“I have a good group of young girls that work hard and are finally buying into the team aspect of the sport,” stated North County cross country coach Peter Selzer.
Alissah Dickey was the first Lady Raider to cross the finish line in a time of 21:42 for fourth place. Whitney Welch was not far behind in fifth place with a time of 21:42. Other runners making up the team score were 10th Taylor Weible at 22:30, 12th Keila Nesler at 22:38, and 13th Chelsea Vogelsang at 22:53. (Only the places of the first five finishers are used for point totals in cross country races.)
Other runners for the Lady Raiders were 15th Karley Monroe at 23:36, 19th Kelsey White at 24:52, 10th Katie Sprauer at 25:04 and 21st Courtney Coulter at 25:08.
The boys team with a score of 88 was bested only by Linn High School’s team with a 35 with a total of 10 teams in the event.
Alex Leutzinger finished in seventh place with a time of 17:29, just two seconds in front of Garrett Degonia in eighth place to lead the Raiders. Corey Pratte finished 20th with a time of 18:08, Steven Nowicki was 23rd at 18:26, and Cody Anderson rounded out the team points at 30th with a time of 19:19. Gary Bennett came in 35th at 19:31 and Justin Whaley was 37th at 19:32.
