Lady Indians clinch share of Small-School crown

CALEDONIA — With only two conference matches left on the schedule, the Bismarck Lady Indians, by virtue of their 25-14, 25-18 win over the Valley Lady Vikings, enjoy a two-game lead over the rest of the division to secure, at the least, a share of the Small-School volleyball championship.

At 8-0 in conference play, the Lady Indians (20-0) have to only win one of the two remaining matches.

Balee Lorenz set up 18 good kills for the Lady Indians’ attackers, and Tori Henson served nine of the team’s points. Holly Blunt made five digs, and Brooke Taylor had 12 kills and three blocks. Blunt and Harley Cadwell had two kills each.

Danielle Johnson and Jessica Crocker served six points each for Valley. Laura Beth Ward led the team in kills with five along with two stuff blocks. Kaitlin Holbert made five digs and Katie Halbert had four assists.

Valley, 4-11 and 3-5 MAAA, will be on the court again at the West County Tournament on Saturday. Bismarck will go for the title-clincher on Tuesday when they will host West County.

Ste. Genevieve 2, Potosi 0

POTOSI
— The Ste. Genevieve Hunters inched closer to the MAAA Large-School title with a 25-16, 25-12 win over the Potosi Lady Trojans on Thursday. The Hunters, now 3-0 in conference and 15-5-4 overall, need only a win against Fredericktown on Tuesday to gain a sure share of the title, but they have cross-town rival Valle to face first on Monday.

Kristen Faulkner made 10 assists in the match for the Hunters. Holley Fox served nine of the team’s points and also made five kills. Tisha Meyer made 10 assists, and nailed down six kills of her own along with two stuff blocks. Laura Rhodes had six kills and Liz Huck served seven points.

Jordan Harbison made seven assists and five digs in the match for Potosi. Ashley Thompson and Lauren Aubuchon had five kills each with Thompson also coming up with four blocks of Hunter attacks.

Potosi, 9-12 and 0-3 MAAA, will host Central on Tuesday.

West County 2, Kingston 0

LEADWOOD
— The West County Lady Bulldogs celebrated their Senior Night with a 25-8, 25-16 win over the Kingston Lady Cougars on Thursday. Seniors Becca Appel and Chelsie Lashley both served nine of West County’s points. Taylor Watson, also a senior made 11 assists.

Rikki Lashley supplied the power surge for the Lady Bulldogs in game one by serving a string of eight points with five aces in the run. Appel led the team in klls with six, and Rikki and Chelsie Lashley had four apiece.

Both teams will play next in West County’s tournament on Saturday. West County is now 5-9 and 3-4 MAAA, and Kingston stands at 3-13-1 and 1-7 MAAA.

Fredericktown, 3, North County 0

BONNE TERRE
— The Fredericktown Lady Cats used a balanced attack to down the North County Lady Raiders 25-15, 25-16 to keep their title hopes alive.

The Lady Cats, 14-11 and 2-1 MAAA, were led in kills by Abbie Tinnin with six, and Lauren Henderson with five. Henderson also served nine points with four aces.  Chelsea Mills served 12 Lady Cat points and also made 11 digs. Allison McDowell had 10 assists, and Kylie Oertel made five digs.

Fredericktown has its work cut out for them as they host Jackson on Monday with Farmington and Ste. Genevieve waiting in the wings.
