ST. LOUIS (AP) — Saint Louis coach Rick Majerus signed three players to national letters of intent on Wednesday, including one attending the same Australian prep school that produced Andrew Bogut.

Christian Salecich, a 6-4 guard, averaged 12 points and shot 43 percent from 3-point range as a junior, and Majerus said he was the top ranked off-guard in the upcoming graduating class in Australia. He played the last two seasons for the Australian Institute of Sport, which has produced more than 20 Division I players.

Bogut, who plays for the Milwaukee Bucks, starred for Majerus at Utah and was the first pick of the 2005 NBA draft.

“Christian is truly Aussie-tough,” Majerus said. “Like all ’Boomers,’ he has a passion and a competitive streak to rival that of Australians like Andrew Bogut, who I was fortunate to coach.

“He is coming 6,000 miles from home to play basketball. That should give our fans some indication about his love of the game.”

Saint Louis also signed 6-8 Cory Remekun of Mesquite, Texas, and 6-7 Jon Smith of Grove City, Ohio. Remekun averaged nine points and five rebounds last season and Smith was a Division I All-Ohio honorable mention selection after averaging 17 points and 11 rebounds as a junior.

Majerus took note of Smith’s toughness in a summer game.

“I saw him take a brutal undercut, spit up some blood, and I thought he lost some teeth,” Majerus said. “When he came back, he was upset when they would not let him back into the game.

“When Jon concentrates on his outside shooting and ball handling, he can be the complete package.”

Majerus said Remekun’s numbers have been held down because his team has two other Division I recruits.
