Pit Bull Mix Puppies
FARMINGTON — Two weeks ago Farmington Pet Adoption Center Director Jayne Wibbels got a call that is becoming all too common. Wibbels was hoping to enjoy her Saturday when a shelter volunteer called and said there was a female dog along with her litter of pups tied to the adoption center’s fence.

“I said I would be right there because it was freezing outside that day,” Wibbels said. “The puppies could have froze to death. They were very young. I understand and can appreciate the fact that people know we are a “no kill” shelter and that we take care of the animals. However, there are only so many we can take in and care for. Besides this was care in which the weather conditions could have killed these dogs.”

Thanks to Wibbels and the rest of her staff, momma dog and her pups are doing just fine and can be adopted out. Wibbels though, is reaching out to the community for help. The shelter is in need of some items to get through the winter.

“We need canned puppy and cat food,” she said. “We also could use monetary donations to help with the bills. We don’t know how the heating bills are going to run this winter.”

The shelter has several dogs that are ready for adoption. A litter of Pit Bull mix pups are ready to go. These guys are about 7-weeks-old and are adorable.

A female Australian Shepherd and Beagle mix named Rocky is also ready for a home. She has two blue eyes and is very friendly.

Her male counterpart Bullwinkle, also an Australian Shepherd and Beagle mix, is also ready for adoption. These guys are both about 11 months old.

A male shepherd mix named Scooter is available for adoption. This guy is very friendly and would make an excellent family pet.

A male hound mix named Jed has been at the shelter for well over a year. He is 2 years old and would love to be the companion for a family, especially with young kids.

A female black and white cat named Stretch is ready for adoption. Stretch was abandoned in the basement of her previous home after her owner had to be hospitalized. She was left in the basement to fend for herself for a month. She is in excellent health and is very grateful for any love and attention that she receives.

The shelter also has a male cat named Survivor. Survivor was left in the woods to fend for himself. He has already been declawed and is ready to make someone a great companion.

For more information about any of these pets call 573-756-8658. The shelter’s thrift store hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.
