The newly organized Mineral Area College Omega Leo Club, a Lions Club for college students, sponsored an eye glasses drive this year as one of its community projects. Their goal was to collect 100 pairs of eye glasses, and they surpassed that goal by collecting 140 pairs of used eye glasses.
Complete pairs of children's and adult's prescription eyeglasses and sunglasses are needed, as well as nonprescription sunglasses. Omega Leo has made their eye glasses drive an annual event, and will collect them year round, presenting donations to the Park Hills Lions Club each fall.
Collected eyeglasses are cleaned, repaired and hand-delivered during optical missions to developing countries. These missions are sponsored by Give the Gift of Sight < http://www.givethegiftofsight.com/intlmissions/ > in partnership with Lions Clubs International. These glasses will be sorted, evaluated, and recycled to be used not only domestically, but internationally as well. Glasses and frames in any condition are needed.
To donate frames or broken glasses drop them off in the collection boxes in the Dean of Students office in room 100 or at the receptionist’s desk in the Student Services Offices, or contact Jean Merrill-Doss, 518-2262 for pick-up.
