Clark County beats Maryville for state title

ST. LOUIS (AP) - Kolt Kiger kicked a 23-yard field goal with 8:40 remaining to lift Clark County over Maryville 10-7 in the Missouri Class 2 Championship Game Saturday afternoon.
The state title was the first for the Indians, who capped off a perfect season (15-0). Maryville finished the year at 13-2.
Javis Vineyard, who scored the Indians’ only touchdown, led Clark County with 121 yards on 23 carries. Vineyard finished the year with 2,529 yards on 217 carries with 43 touchdowns.
Clark County came into the game averaging 41 points per game and appeared poised for more of the same when Vineyard scored from 1-yard out 3:26 into the game. But that was the only touchdown for the Indians, who were held to 281 total yards.
Maryville battled back to tie the game at 7-7 on Adam Mattson’s 2-yard run 3:50 into the third quarter. Mattson finished with 21 carries for 186 yards.
Hazelwood East beats Raytown South for state title
ST. LOUIS (AP) — Eric Brown hit Tarrell Downing with a 28-yard touchdown pass as time expired to give Hazelwood East a 39-34 win over Raytown South in Missouri’s Class 5A title game.
Raytown South (12-2) had gone ahead with 30 seconds left on a 4-yard run by Sean Wheaton in Friday night’s game at the Edward Jones Dome.
But Hazelwood East (11-3) came back to capture its third state title on Brown’s desperation heave.
Downing also caught a 64-yard touchdown pass from Brown for the game’s first score, and finished with 124 yards on just three catches. Hazelwood East also got 90 rushing yards and two scores from Dejuan Owens.
Quarterback Dennis Tanner led Raytown South with touchdown passes of 15 and 11 yards and scored on a 1-yard run. In all, Tanner completed 17 passes for 250 yards.
Webb City wins Class 4 title 41-34
ST. LOUIS (AP) — Mack Kyle runs for 110 yards and a score and passes for 214 yards and two touchdowns as Webb City beats Jefferson City Helias 41-34 on Saturday to win the Class 4 state championship.
Webb City (15-0) built a 21-7 lead before Helias (12-2) scored three unanswered touchdowns to take a 27-21 lead into the fourth quarter.
The Cardinals regained the lead on a 32-yard touchdown pass from Kyle to Austin Daniels, but the extra point attempt was blocked and the game stayed tied at 27-27. Kyle then put Webb City up 33-27 on a 15-yard run with 8:50 left in the game, but the 2-point conversion failed.
Helias went back on top with a 9-yard touchdown run by Brad Wilson to make it 34-33 with 6:54 remaining.
Braxton Baker’s 2-yard touchdown run with 2:35 left put Webb City on top for good.
Helias quarterback Jay Shimmens completed 9-of-21 passes for 149 yards and three touchdowns. Shimmens also ran the ball 24 times for 40 yards and another score.
