Farmington lands 13 on All-Region First Team, Valle has 12

CAPE GIRARDEAU - The Southeast Missouri Sports Writers and Broadcasters Association met just prior to the state semi-finals to select the All-Region Teams for the Southeast Region. Teams were placed in their respective state-defined class sizes with Classes 4 and 5 combined due to there being only six teams in the Region between the two classes.

First-Team and Honorable Mentions were selected for each class, but because Class 3 had eight teams eligible, a second team was also selected along with Honorable Mention (see below).

CLASS 4-5

The Farmington Knights and the Jackson Indians were both district winners and between the two they claimed 19 of the 25 positions on the Class 4-5 team. Farmington had players selected to a total of 13 positions including seven of the 11 offense spots.

Farmington coach Todd Vaughn was named Coach of the Year, and Bryan Krause received three selections as wide receiver, defensive back and return specialist. Place-kicker Logan Bradley was the only freshman to make the First-Team.

CLASS 3

The New Madrid County Central Eagles (NMCC) and the Ste. Genevieve Dragons won their respective districts with New Madrid defeating the Dragons in the sectional game. The Eagles were named to eight spots  on the First Team and five on the Second team.

Ste. Genevieve’s tandem of quarterback Kory Faulkner and receiver Dustin Noll, set and broke several records during the season and they headed the list of five First team positions for the Dragons as well as two Second Team positions.

Running backs Brandon Bourbon of Potosi and Joey Lewandowski of Fredericktown had plenty of company from their teammates on the First Team with both the Trojans and Blackcats having five players selected and also both teams had three players selected to the Second Team.

 Defensive back Tony Martin received Central’s only First Team selection, and defensive lineman Kory Wakefield the Rebels only Second Team pick.

CLASS 2

Caruthersville and Scott City both received four selections to the First Team in Class 2 for their District-winning efforts (there were no local schools in Class 2.)

CLASS 1

 The Valle Warriors and the Hayti Indians both won their respective district with Valle winning the head-to-head in Sectionals. The Warriors received 12 selections with Coach Judd Naeger also receiving one for Coach of the Year.

Quarterback Michael Greminger led the way for the Warriors with lineman Bryan Kertz making All-Region on both sides of the ball. Jason Blum was selected to three of the 25 First Team spots as a return specialist, Defensive back and tight end. Aaron Basler also received multi-selections as linebacker and punter
